SPECKLE PARK

High quality cattle originating in Saskatchewan & Alberta Canada.

THE HISTORY OF SPECKLE PARK

Speckle Park cattle originated in Saskatchewan and Alberta, Canada. Around 1953 Mary Lindsay spotted a red roan heifer in her father’s herd and purchased this heifer whom always produced that distinct colour pattern regardless of the sire. Mary became the breed originator going on to breed more speckled cattle intentionally. Neighbouring beef cattle breeders noted these Speckled cattle come through the markets, bringing premium prices.

The heifer was believed to be a descendent of a Teeswater Shorthorn and a bull which had the white park colour pattern. In 1959 Eileen and Bill Lamont of Saskatchewan purchased their first heifer from Mary, later pushing the developing of a breed. The Speckle Park breed pays tribute to both Mary Lindsay and the Lamont’s for their roles in starting the Speckle Park breed. Speckle Park gained full ‘distinct breed’ recognition from the Canadian Government in 2006

Speckle Park are a combination of three breeds from England and Scotland;

Teeswater Shorthorns,
Aberdeen Angus, and English cattle with the white park pattern.

Developed as a moderate framed beef breed with quality carcass attributes and a distinct colour pattern. . The cattle come in colour patterns of: Solid Black, Speckled, Leopard and White with Black Tips.

Research on the breed’s performance has been undertaken in Australia through Speckle Park International. In August 2020, Speckle Park International published their trail results of 76 FI Speckle Park/Angus heifers against 61 Angus heifers that were custom-fed together for 100 days and
